Green Cleaning Parties Featured on Good Morning America

Party2Win client Women's Voices for the Earth has taken the Tupperware party into the 21st Century with its “Green Cleaning Parties.” And ABC's Good Morning America featured these eco-friendly gatherings in a recent segment.

“This idea actually came from one of our members,” says Erin Thompson, Senior Campaigns Organizer for Missoula, Montana-based WVE. “As we were trying to come up with new ways to advocate for safer household products and spread the word of this important work to more people, one suggested the Tupperware party model.”

WVE created Green Cleaning Parties Kits and launched the party program. The Green Cleaning Party Kits – packed with an informational DVD, facts about the dangers of some chemicals in conventional cleaners, advocacy scripts for corporate and congressional targets, and recipe cards for non-toxic cleaning products are part of WVE’s Safe Cleaning Products Initiative, a national campaign to reduce women’s exposure to chemicals in cleaning products.

WVE’s success is measured by the growth of their membership, the number of parties, money raised, and the results of an aggressive PR strategy that has earned no less than 50 individual media hits, including local and national magazines and television, in the first six months of the program.

The organization is also making the program accessible for Spanish speakers using Party2Win. Asked what’s next in their plans for the Green Cleaning Party program, WVE’s Erin Thompson explains, “The continued media stories consistently bring new party hosts to us and help us spread the word about toxic chemicals in cleaning products. For example, the day after Good Morning America aired, we had 50 new hosts signed up. Our job now is to continue to engage these party hosts as advocates for long-term policy changes.”

So take it from this Party2Win success story. Just as with the environmentally friendly recipes that WVE supporters master at the Green Cleaning Parties, the right ingredients can make your organization a powerful agent of change. Combine one part great idea for social advocacy and one part talented and dedicated staff, add a large serving of enthusiastic supporters and finish with a healthy dose of earned media. Pour it all into the internet’s best grassroots event management software, Party2Win, and get ready to take your organization to new opportunities and new challenges.

Author Cleans Up with Book Parties

Author and PartyLaunch client Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez has a reputation. Not only is this talented writer known as the “Godmother of Chica Lit,” having led the market for English language novels catering to Latina readers, but she also has shown herself to be a state-of-the-art marketing maven. Always ahead of the curve in finding innovative ways to connect with fans of her “Dirty Girls” series of novels, Alisa has once again pushed the envelope by launching a successful round of “Dirty Girls Book Parties” for the launch of her newest book release.

Alisa used her own web site, her blog, a clever contest, pre-launch interviews and more to promote a new kind of book launch party for the release of her fifth novel, “Dirty Girls on Top.” Alisa's marketing savvy, combined with the powerful organizing tools of PartyLaunch.com, succeeded in recruiting over 50 book launch parties nationwide to celebrate the new novel, engage her most enthusiastic fans, bring in new readers, and – most of all – promote sales.

Some of the parties featured fun, cosmo-sipping, “Sex and the City” themes. Hosts of other parties focused on girl-talk and gossip. On several evenings, Alisa joined simultaneous parties with a live online chat. “The fact that we’re actually IM-ing her at her house,” one host said, shaking her head. “At a reading all you get to say is ‘I liked your book’ and then keep moving.”

With Alisa’s “novel” approach to growing her empire (she’s going multi-media, with a Nickelodeon tv series based on her teen novel and a feature film based on her first novel in the works), Alisa’s reputation for innovation is guaranteed to grow. So keep your eyes on the career of this ambitious “sucia,” and while you’re at it, buy her book, and attend – or, even better – host a Dirty Girls Book Party yourself.
